Hi all, I am back at Sizzix Central after spending the weekend in the beautiful and historic city of Porto in northern Portugal. I was there as one of five tutors at an event run by Tubo who distribute Sizzix products amongst others, I will post some of the pictures next week. It was beautifully run, as always, by Patricia and her team and it was especially nice to catch up with old friends and make a few new ones along the way.

As I said last week I was teaching some 3-D flower techniques using the new and ground breaking dies by US designer Susan Tierney-Cockburn who has created a fantastic range of dies which I implore you to seek out.

There is one special little lady I was most anxious to meet in Portugal, she is Patricia's daughter and her name is Leonor, she will be 2 years old this month and she is absolutely gorgeous, if you don't believe me then check out the photograph below embellished of course using some of the aforementioned 3-D flowers and the newCollectable range of papers from My Mind's Eye.

Para fazer estas flores é preciso alguma técnica mas o resultado final compensa largamente o trabalho! Muito, muito em breve estarão em Portugal....

 The new Sizzix dies, the thinlits from Susan's Garden line, allow us to make these beautiful tridimesnional flowers. daffodils, roses, sunflowers or geraniums the choice is enormous! These flowers do take a bit of work but the end result is just too beautiful!

Mini Book Jar and Label "For You"

Hoje propomos-lhe um Mini Book Jar and Label "For You", para trazer sempre consigo! Este mini livro é muito fácil de fazer mas uma delícia para utilizar! Divirta-se a criar!

Today we bring you a Jar and Label mini book, "For You", so that you can always have a stylish book in your handbag to take notes or simply write a recipe you see somewhere. Have fun creating!

Vai precisar de * You will need

• Big Shot machine by Sizzix
• 658699 - Sizzix Framelits Die Set 16 Pk w/ stamps - Jar
• Cinch 
• 1 folha 12"x12" * 1 12"x12" paper Rouge Dot Pebbles - Basics Collection
• Almofada carimbo preta * Black ink pad
• Espiral branca * White binding wires
• Folhas A4 * A4 regular paper
• Cartolina A4 branca * A4 white cardstock
• Botão vermelho * Red button
• Cola PVA * PVA glue
• Almofadas 3D * 3D foam pads
• Fio vermelho entrançado * Red twine
• Fita vermelha * Red ribbon

1. Comece por carimbar a jarra sobre uma folha A4 e depois corte-a com o respetivo framelit na Big Shot.

Repare que usamos pedaços de post-it para segurar o framelit à folha. * Start by stamping the jar on an A4 shhet of cardstock and then cut it using  the framelit from the same set. Notice that we used post-its to adhere the framelit to the cardstock so it won't move.

2. Na cartolina 12"x12" Rouge Dot da Pebbles, corte de uma vez, dois pedaços com a jarra. Seguidamente, sobre um outro pedaço carimbe uma tampa (no lado quadriculado) e corte-a também. * On the 12"x12" Rouge dot paper from pebbles, cut two jars. Afterwards stamp the lid (on the check side) and cut it as well.

3. Para fazer a etiqueta "For You" da capa, recorte as respetivas peças. Duas delas na cartolina vermelha e uma etiqueta branca na folha A4. * To make the "For You" label for the cover, cut the pieces shown bellow: two of them on the red dot paper and one on the white cardstock.

4. Comece por colar com a cola PVA a etiqueta: a etiqueta branca sobre a cartolina das bolas brancas e o quadriculado sobre esse conjunto. Recorte três rebuçados (dois na cartolina e um na folha A4). Já pode carimbar na "janela" branca da etiqueta o "For You". * Start by gluing the different pieces of the label together using PVA glue. Die cut three sweets (two from the red dot paper and a white one). Stamp on the window of the label, using the black ink pad, the sentence "For you".

5. Pegue em 3 ou 4 folhas A4 e dobre ao meio e corte por 4 vezes a jarra. Ficará com um conjunto de folhas para o seu bloco. Aplique cola na folha que previamente carimbou (na alínea 1) e cole esta sobre a cartolina da bolas brancas. * Take 3 or 4 A4 papers (regular paper), fold them in half and cut the jar 4 times. Apply some glue on the back of the white jar you stamped previously and glue it to the piece of red dot paper.

6. Pegue no conjunto capa, contracapa e folhas brancas e posicione na Cinch para fazer 4 furos e por fim aplica a espiral branca. * Take all the jar pieces and using the Cinch machine, punch four wholes and then apply the binding wires.

7. Decore com as peças que cortou e carimbou. Use as almofadas 3D para aplicar a tampa e o botão. Não se esqueça de passar neste um pouco de fio entrançado antes de o colar. Corte alguns pedaços de fita vermelha e dê uns nós nas espirais. * Decorate with the pieces you have cut and stamped. Use the 3D foam pads to attach the lid and the button. Don't forget to pass some twine on the lid before you glue it to the jar. Cut some pieces of red ribbon and tie it to the binding wires.

1. Corte e dobre um cartão verde para a base e faça embossing na frente com uma textura antes de passar o distress ink com a ajuda de um aplicador. * Cut and fold a green base card and emboss the cover using the trellis folder before applying the Old paper ink with and applicator to enhance the embossed detail.

2. Com a ajuda de um computador e impressora, faça o corpo do convite e imprima em papel bege. Corte à medida e cole no centro do cartão. * Use a PC and printer to create the wording of the invite and print onto cream paper. Trim to size and attach to the centre of the base card.

3. Corte e monte o medalhão em papel azul claro e cole no topo do convite. Corte o banner em papel creme e cole no centro do medalhão. * Die cut and assemble the medallion from pale blue card and attach to the top of the invite. Die cut the banner from ivory card and attach to the centre of the medallion.

4. Corte a inicial de cartão fino e aplique um adesivo forte (como cola em spray) antes de deitar o glitter rosa. Abane para retirar qualquer excesso e cole a letra no centro do medalhão. * Die cut the initial letter from stiff card and coat with a suitable adhesive (I prefer spray adhesive) before sprinkling on the glitter. Shake off any excess and attach the letter to the centre of the medallion.

1. Para criar a base do cartão, dobre primeiro uma peça de papel branco grosso ao meio e coloque no cortante do vestido, certificando-se que a dobra fica um pouco abaixo da lâmina. * To create the base card first fold a piece of heavy weight white card in half and place against the dress on the die ensuring that the fold is at the top and a little of the blade is exposed before die cutting to form the base card.

2. Corte um vestido verde e um rosa. Use um lápis para marcar o escalopado na parte rosa e corte com uma faca de corte. Decore na parte superior do esclopado com flores cortadas de papel bege decoradas com pérolas cor-de-rosa e decore o resto do escalopado com outras pérolas. * Die cut a pink and a green dress. Use a pencil to mark out the scallops on the rear of the pink dress and trim away the base using a craft knife. Decorate where the scallops meet with die cut ivory flowers embellished with pink gems and decorate the edge of the scallops using tiny adhesive pearl accents.

3. Utilize as mesmas pérolas para decorar a zona do pescoço do vestido e cole o vestido rosa no verde, antes de montar ambos na base. * Use the same gems to decorate the neck of the dress and mount the pink dress over its green counterpart before mounting both onto the white base card.

4. Finalmente, corte o laço de papel bege e dê-lhe dimensão antes de aderir ao cartão base.  Finally, die cut the bow from patterned ivory card and add dimension using a large ball end stylus before attaching to the waist of the card.

1. Para criar a base do cartão, dobre um pedaço de papel azul ao meio e coloque-o no cortante, com a dobra virada para a parte lisa e deixando a lâmina superior à vista. Corte a base. * To create the base card, first fold in half a piece of blue cardstock and make sure it is larger than the Deckled Card area of the die. Place against the die ensuring that the fold is towards the top and a little of the blade is exposed and cut the base card.

2. Coloque um rectângulo de papel verde na zona decorativa do cortante e corte uma tira, colando-a de seguida na base do cartão a cerca de 3 mm da base. * Place a rectangle of the blue/green patterned card against the deckled edge of the die and cut a strip of card before mounting onto your base card about 3mm from the base.

3.  Corte uma fivela em cartão fino e cubra com cola em spray antes de deitar glitter preto em cima. Abane para remover o excesso e passe uma tira de papel bege na fivela antes de aderir a mesma à base do cartão. Corte um arabesco verde e uma borboleta rosa. Gentilmente dê movimento às asas e dobre ao meio para dar mais dimensão. Aplique cola PVA na borda das asas e deite o glitter brilhante incolor por cima. *  Die cut an ornate buckle from plain, stiff card and cover with a suitable adhesive prior to covering with the black glitter. Shake oftf he excess glitter and thread with a length of patterned ivory card before wrapping around the front of the base card. Die cut a green swirl accent and a pink butterfly. Gently curl the wings of the butterfly and fold in the center to add a little dimension. Apply PVA carefully around the edges of the butterfly and sprinkle with the iridescent glitter.

4. Cole a borboleta e o arabesco na base do cartão e decore com pérolas adesivas. Escolha dois pedaços de fita e faça laços. Pegue em dois alfinetes e passe através do nó dos laço maior e cole os alfintes ao centro da borboleta com uma pistola de cola quente. * Attach the butterfly and swirl to the base card and decorate the swirl using adhesive pearl gems. Chose two suitable lengths of ribbon and tie into bows. Take two long pearl tipped pins and insert through the knot of the largest bow and attach the bows/pins to the centre of the butterfly using a glue gun.

1. Corte o corpo e a base das chávenas em cores contrastantes e monte utilizando um adesivo forte, antes de unir as peças uma à outra. * Die cut the main body and base of the cup in contrasting tones and assemble using a suitable adhesive before mounting together.

2. Corte as tiras para formarem a pega e dê-lhes movimento antes de aderir à chávena. Adicione glitter no topo da chávena usando cola PVA aplicada cuidadosamente com uma ponteira fina. * Die cut the strips to form the handle and curl into shape prior to attaching to the cup. Add glitter around the lip of the cup using PVA glue carefully applied from a fine applicator bottle.

3. Para fazer as decorações para os cupcakes, corte duas rosetas/medalhões e monte. Para o cupcake verde, use as peças decorativas do cortante para decorar o centro, antes de adicionar uma pérola adesiva. * To make the decorations for the cupcakes die cut two of the medallions/rosettes and assemble. For the green cake, Use the decorative elements from the medallions die in the centre of the medallion before decorating with a large adhesive pearl.

4. Corte o "banner" de papel claro e dobre ao meio, antes de colar na parte de trás de cada medalhão. Cole-o de seguida num pau de espetada e coloque-o no cupcake. * Die cut the banner from pale card and fold in half before attaching to the rear of the medallion. Attach the assembled medallion to a length of wooden barbecue skewer and place into the cupcake.

5. Para o Cupcake vermelho, monte o segundo medalhão e coloque o "banner" a atravessar o centro, utilizando esponjas 3D para dar dimensão. Corte duas borboletas e dê movimento às asas. Decore-as com pérolas adesivas e coloque-as no medalhão. Adicione o medalhão a um pau de espetada e coloque no Cupcake. For the Red cake, assemble the second medallion and mount a folded banner across the centre using a 3D foam pad. Die cut the two butterflies and gently curl the wings to add dimension. Decorate the bodies of the butterflies with adhesive pearl gems and mount onto the medallion. Attach the assembled medallion to a length of wooden barbecue skewer and place into the cupcake.

1. Corte o corpo e a base de cada cone com papéis de cores contrastantes. Dobre o cone pela linha marcada e cole com fita dupla face forte. Arredonde a base até ficar em cone e cole à peça grande. * Die cut the body and base of the cone from contrasting card. Fold the cone along its crease lines and secure with a suitable adhesive. Curl the base into a cone and attach to the main body.

2. Corte flores de cores variadas e dâ-lhes movimento, enrolando-as um pouco. Monte as flores umas nas outras e adira ao cone com almofadas 3D. Decore o centrio das flores com pérolas adesivas. * Die cut the various flower shapes in a variety of colours and use a ball end stylus to gently curl the petals to add dimension. Mount the flowers together and attach to the cone using 3D foam pads. Decorate the centre of the flower using suitable adhesive gems or pearls.

3. Se quiser pendurar os cones passe fita de organza no topo e encha com os seus doces preferidos! Repita este processo para fazer tantos cones quantos desejar. * If you wish to hang the cones thread with organza ribbon and fill with treats of your choice.Repeat the process in various patterns and shades using a different combination of flower shapes.

Como funcionar com thinlits * How to work with thinlits

Olá a todos! O post de hoje é de certeza o post mais técnico que escrevemos no blog mas achamos que era mesmo importante esclarecer algumas dúvidas sobre os novos cortantes da Sizzix: os Thinlits! Estes cortantes, em muito similares aos framelits, destinam-se a cortar papel. A grande diferença entre uns e outros é o detalhe que se consegue obter com os novos cortantes: são muito mais minunciosos! 

Hi everyone! Today's post is for sure the most technical one we ever posted on the blog but we thought it was important to explain a little how the new Sizzix dies work: meet the Thinlits! These dies are in fact a lot similar to framelits and they are destined to cut paper. The main difference is that the detail on the new dies is tremendous which allows you to make really detailed cuts.

Cada pacote de Thinlits vem com uma bolsa plástica onde se coloca a folha da frente da embalagem, para assim identificar melhor o interior e claro assim estes pequenos cortantes ficam bem arrumados.

Each pack of  Thinlits comes with a plastic pouch where you can place the front page of each day so that not only you can easily identify the inside, but also keep the dies well stored together.

Este é o famoso wax paper de que temos falado. Embora  muito similar ao papel vegetal, o wax paper é mais fino e como o próprio nome indica com uma aparência mais gordurosa. Não é fácil encontrá-lo no nosso país por isso pergunte-nos onde o pode adquirir.

This is the famous wax paper we have been talking about. Although very similar to parchment paper, this one is thinner and as the name itself says, it has a waxed look and feel to it.

De volta aos thinlits. Existem diferentes tipos de cortantes, maiores e mais pequenos. Este é um cortante que faz uma etiqueta e é parte de um conjunto de 4. Podemos cortar o papel sem wax paper pois o cortante tem pouco detalhe.

Back to the thinlits. They come in different sizes and type of details. This one is a tag from a set of four. We can cut paper without any help because it is a very simple die.

Alguns destes cortantes, como é o caso deste, depois de cortado ficam umas zonas a descoberto. Estas podem ser utilizadas para fazer embossing, neste caso usando um distress ink pad. Com o papel ainda no cortante, passamos gentilmente a esponja nas aberturas. Quando retiramos o cortante, as marcas feitas pela tinta passam para o papel.

Some of these dies, such as this one, after it's cut it stays with some areas where you can see the paper. They can be used for embossing and in this case we used a distress ink pad. With the paper still on the die, gently press the foam on the applicator with the ink of your choice. When you remove the die, the marks made by the ink remain on the paper.

 Divertido, não? * Fun, right?

Depois há Thinlits mais detalhados como é o caso deste "doily". Para cortantes como este o uso de wax paper é essencial para que o corte saia perfeito mas sobretudo para que não tenha de estar a empurrar com um bico os pequenos pedaços de papel que ficam nas aberturas.

Then you have Thinlits that are more detailed like this doily one. For dies such as this the use of wax paper is really important so that not only you reach a perfect cut but also so you won't have to push all the small bits left stuck to the paper with a small piercer.

Corte o Wax paper do mesmo tamanho que o papel que está a cortar e coloque o cortante seguido do Wax paper e depois o papel que quer cortar. Coloque entre as placas de acrílico e dê à manivela para a frente e para trás.

Cut the wax paper the same size of the paper you want to cut and then put the die, followed by the wax paper and then your paper. Put them in between the cutting plates and turn the handle back and forward.

Depois de passar o cortante para a frente e para trás, rode-o 90 graus nas placas de acrílico e volte a passar nos dois sentidos. Atenção que este procedimento só é preciso para estes cortantes com muito detalhe!

After passing the die back and forward, turn it 90º degrees on the cutting plates and cut again twice. You only have to do this with these detailed dies!

O corte sai perfeito e sem esforço! Até a sobra de wax paper é bonita e pode ser usada para efeitos decorativos!

The cut is just perfect and effortless! Even the wax paper shape is pretty and can be used for decorative purposes.

Apesar de não parecerem estes cortantes têm pormenores muito pequenos e finos, como as patas do pássaro e as antenas da borboleta. Recomendamos que use nestes casos wax paper para que tudo saia logo à primeira e sem rasgões ou imperfeições.

Although these dies look really simple, they have really small and thin details like the bird's feet and the butterfly anthena's. We recomend that you use wax paper in these cases so that everything just pops out after you cut without any tears or imperfections.

Reparem no pormenor das patas e das antenas, perfeitamente cortadas! * Notice the details on the paws of the bird and the anthena's on the butterfly 

Embora não tendo muito detalhe use o Wax paper para cortantes como este em que não quer passar o tempo a empurrar pequenos pedaços agarrados ao cortante!

Although this die doesn't have a lot of detail use wax paper in cases like this where you don't want to spend any time taking out small bits of paper still attached to the die!

E cá está o resultado final: 3 pequenos projectos usando elementos cortados com os thinlits. Para fazer os cartões usamos papéis da nova colecção da pebbles Love You More que é linda para usar agora que os dias parecem querer sorrir de vez em quando. Para além disso nós temos um fraquinho pela designer atrás desta linha...

And here is the final result: three projects made using the element cut with the thinlits. To make the projects we used papers from the new Pebbles line, Love you More that is just perfect for now that the sun beams start coming once in a while. Besides we do have a "crush" on the designer behind this line....

Thinlits+Framelits= beautiful cards

Temos a certeza de que já ouviu falar nos novos cortantes da Sizzix, os Thinlits! Estes cortantes, em muito semelhantes aos framelits, são ideias para trabalhar em pequenos projectos ou para dar pormenores a layouts. Desta vez resolvemos fazer 3 cartões, utilizando papéis e cortantes bem diferentes para obter os resultados que pretendíamos.

We are quite sure you have already heard about the new Sizzix dies called Thinlits! These dies, in much similar to framelits are just the thing to use in smaller projects or to give details to layouts or home decor projects. This time we decided to make 3 cards using different papers and very different dies so we could get the result we wanted!

O primeiro cartão, dedicado ao Dia do Pai, foi feito usando papéis da colecção Miss Caroline da My Mind's Eye, o framelits 658601 (Banners by Paula Pascual) e o conjunto de Thinlits 659063 (Top hats & Moustaches). Masculino mas muito divertido, certo?

This first card can be usedforo Father's Day and it was made using papers from My Mind's Eye line, Miss Caroline ,the framelits 658601 (banners by paula Pascual) and the thinlits set 659063 (Top hats & Mustaches). Very masculine but fun at the same time, right?

Este segundo cartão é bem mais delicado e foi feito com papéis Tell Your Story de Teresa Collins Designs. Mesmo a propósito para a estação que se avizinha em que estas são as cores da moda! Usamos o framelits 657552, Circles scallop e o conjunto de Thinlits 659110 (For the record 2). O doilie deste conjunto foi recortado em papel vegetal mas com a ajuda do precioso wax paper sem o qual seria impossível recortar com este pormenor! Usamos também wax paper para cortar a borboleta. O processo consiste em colocar este papel entre o cortante e o papel que queremos cortar.

This second card was made using Teresa Collins papers, Tell your story and they couldn't be more up to date with the coming fashionable colors for this spring! We used the framelits set, circls scalloped, 657552 and the new thinlit set 659110, For the record 2. The doilie on the card was cut out of very thin vellum but to help the process of removing all the small bits that stay attached to the paper, we used wax paper. The paper is placed between the die and the paper. We also used wax paper to cut the butterfly!

Este terceiro cartão é uma verdadeira declaração de amor, até pelo trabalho que aqui está colocado! Usamos papéis da colecção Nostalgia da My Mind's Eye e a base do cartão foi cortada com os maravilhosos L card dies da Sizzix, o 658702, Majestic flip-it card. Depois usamos dois conjuntos diferentes de thinlits: o 659111 (Hello Summer) e o 659072, Tags by Rachel Bright.  Apesar dos pequenos detalhes, é notável a precisão de corte destes novos cortantes! Claro que o wax paper foi essencial para estes cortes perfeitos!

This third card is a true declaration of love, even because of all the work put into it! We used Nostalgia paper line from My Mind's Eye and the base of the card was cut using the marvellous L dies by Sizzix. In this case we used 658702, Majestic flip-it card. Then we used two new sets of thinlits: 659111, Hello Summer and 659072, tags by Rachel Bright. In spite of the details, the precision cut is remarkable on these new dies! Of course the wax paper really helps a lot!
