My Mind's Eye: a sweet home

Não podemos negar que temos um carinho muito especial pela My Mind's Eye. Por ter sido a primeira marca que acreditou em nós e nas potencialidades do Scrapbooking em Portugal temos mesmo um miminho especial por estes rapazes! Hoje chega-nos o testemunho do KC.

We can't deny that we have a special foundness for My Mind's Eye. Because thery were the first brand that believed in us and on the potentials of scrapbooking in Portugal we really do care a lot for these guys! Today we bring you KC.

1. À quanto tempo trabalhas na área do scrapbooking e especialmente na My Mind's Eye?
Desde 2001. Fiz um intervalo de dois anos em 2002-2004 mas tirando isso sempre trabalhei na My Mind's Eye.


1. How long have you been working in the scrapbook industry and at My Mind's Eye specifically?
Since 2001, I had a two year break from 2002-2004, but otherwise I’ve worked for MME the entire duration.

2. Qual é a coisa que mais detestas nesta indústria?
A palavra detesto parece ser tão forte mas de facto há uma série de coisas que eu mudaria. Adorava que o tempo de vida de um produto fosse maior mas se realmente pudesse mudar uma coisa seria torná-la num negócio mil vezes maior em que eu seria um novo e melhorado Tim Holtz!

2. What is the one thing you hate most about the industry?
Hate seems so heavy of a word, but there’s plenty of things I’d change. I would definitely like to see product line life spans last longer, but If I had to change something I’d make the industry a million times bigger and I’d be the new and improved Tim Holtz!

3. Alguma vez deste uma aula? Se sim, para quantos?
Já dei muitas aulas. Normalmente temos 20 a 40 pessoas mas já dei aulas para grupos de 100. Acho que seria muito divertido fazer algo num estádio cheio de Scrappers!

3. Did you ever teach a class? For how many?
I have taught many classes. There is usually 20 – 40 people, but I have taught as many as 100 in a class. I think it’d be fun to teach to a stadium of scrappers!

4. Qual é a tua linha favorita de sempre? E não vale a pena mentir!
Eu tenho algumas linhas favoritas e as minhas decisões são sempre baseadas naquilo que mais vendeu. As linhas Lost & Found têm sido fantásticos para mim e gostei sempre de todas elas. Também gostei muito da Bohemia line que data de 2005-2006.

4. What is your favorite line ever? And you can’t lie!
I have a few favorite MME lines, and my decision is usually based on how well they sell. The Lost and Found lines have been amazing to me and I’ve loved all of them. I also really loved the Bohemia line from way back in 2005-2006.

5. Como é que alguém tão simpático, doce e giro continua solteiro?
Diz-me tu! Deve ser insuportável ou algo assim!

5. So, you are a very nice, sweet and handsome guy. How come you are still single?
You tell me!!! I must be obnoxious or something

6. Já sabemos que viajaste muito. Qual é o teu país favorito e porquê?
Sendo o responsável de vendas dos EUA normalmente não viajo muito para fora do país mas fui uma vez a um evento em Toronto no Canadá. É uma cidade fabulosa e foi fantástico ver as cataratas do Niagara ao vivo. Mesmo assim gostava de ir um pouco mais longe.

6. We know that you have traveled a lot. What was your favorite country and why?
Being the USA rep, I generally don’t travel outside the country, but I did go to Toronto for an event. Toronto is a great city, and it was amazing to see Niagra Falls in person. I’d still love to spread my wings a bit further.

7. O que é que temos de fazer para vos convecer (a ti e ao Sean) para virem visitar Portugal?
Só têm de pedir!

7. What would we have to do to convince you (and Sean for that matter) to come and visit Portugal?
Just ask!

8. Diz a verdade: antes de trabalhares na indústria do scrapbooking sabias o que era um layout, autocolante ou atache?
Autocolante-sim, layout- mais ou menos, atache- nem pensar. Eu comecei quando tinha 18 anos por isso nessa altura não sabia nada de quase nada!

8. Be truthful: before working in the scrapbook industry did you know what a layout, sticker or brad was?
Sticker=yes, layout=kind of, brad=no way. I did start when I was 18 so really I didn’t know what anything was in or out of the industry.

9. Qual é a comida que não consegues deixar de comer e aquela que não gostas mesmo?
Adoro comer e experimentar novas coisas mas se estou com pouco tempo é pizza a toda à hora! De todos os tipos e de todas as formas. Não consigo lembrar-me de alguma comida normal que deteste mas não gosto de comida com texturas estranhas. Não gosto de comida com textura viscosa.

9. What is the one food you can never stop eating and the one that you really hate?
I love to eat and try new things, but if I’m in a jam it’s pizza all the way! All kinds and styles. I can’t think of normal foods that I hate, but I don’t like weird texture on foods. I don’t like slimy style of foods.

10. Um desejo para 2013.
O meu desejo era que a Patrícia e todos os simpáticos clientes da Tubo de Ensaio me levassem a mim e ao Sean a uma grande evento em Portugal!

10. One wish for 2013.
My one wish would be that Patricia and the good folks and customers of Tubo De Ensaio would bring Sean and I out for a big event in Portugal!

Dear KC and Sean, me and all the ladies (and gentlemen) here in Portugal, would love for you two to come to Portugal. Together with the other designers already lined up for the event (but still in secret) I am quite sure it would be the best event ever! How is your agenda for the 27th and 28th of April? free? If so, consider it settled! You will just have to work hard to meet the demanding standards of the scrappers here!!!!!

Cupcake, anyone?

Bom Feriado para todos! Neste dia chuvoso, aqui fica um projecto vindo da Sizzix! E para a semana já teremos este maravilhoso e muito aguardado cortante numa loja perto de si!

Good morning everyone! Around here the rain is pouring hard so nothing better then a sweet project done by Sizzix! And next week this die will be available in a store next to you!

Material necessário * Supplies needed
- Sizzix L die Cupcake holder, 658008
- Cardstock, scrapbooking paper
- Distress ink pads

Usando o cortante, corte o cupcake usando papel de scrapbooking e trabalhe as bordas com Distress Ink pads. Adicione cartolina no interior de modo a decorar as aberturas que ficam perfuradas. Monte o cupcake holder e finalize colocando um lindo cupcake dentro!

Using the die, cut the cupcake holder out of patterned paper and ink around the edges with a distress ink pad of your choice. Add some cardstock to the inside so the openings stay colored and decorated. Assemble the cupcake holder and finalize it with a beautiful cupcake on the inside!

Lunch bag using Vintage Finds

"Adoro fazer estas pequenas e divertidas lancheiras que já se fazem à anos e anos mas como adoro esta colecção de papel queria muito fazer uma lancheira com ela!

"I love making these fun little lunch bags. People have been making these or something similar for ages, I love this collection so much I wanted to make a new one! 

Usei os seguintes papéis da colecção Vintage Finds para a frente e para trás: Bingo tiles e Black Damask. Depois sobrepus os papéis em cima do Orange Damask (2 folhas) com o lado preto e branco para o interior.

I used the following papers from the Vintage Finds Collection for the front, back, sides and bottom: Bingo, Titles, Black Damask. Then I layered them onto the Orange Damask (2 sheets) showing the black and white side for the interior.

Papel com os títulos- eu cortei 4 linhas e recortei com decoração ao longo da quarta linha (para ficar do mesmo tamanho que os cartões de bingo). Depois cortei tiras do papel de bingo (usei Friends, Beautiful e Charming para um lado e Story, Life e Blessed para o outro). Usei Home and Love para os lados. O papel Black damask cortei em duas tiras com a mesma largura do cartão de bingo.

Titles paper - I cut 4 rows down and fussy cut along the 4th row (trim to the same width as the Bingo cards). Then I cut strips from the Bingo paper - I used Friends, Beautiful, & Charming for one side and Story, Life, Blessed on the other. I used Home and Love for the sides. Black Damask I cut strips 2 x the width of the bingo cards. 

Depois sobrepus os papéis como se vê em cima. Do papel Orange damask, corte 8 1/2 x 9 1/4 (x2) , 8 1/2 x 3 1/4 (x2) e uma tira de 9 1/4 x 3 1/4. Escureça a toda à volta. Eu usei o Gathered Twigs distress pad do Tim Holtz porque adoro como se mistura com as cores desta colecção.

Then layer them together as shown above. Cut the Orange Damask 8 1/2 x 9 1/4 (x2) , 8 1/2 x 3 1/4 (x2), and one strip 9 1/4 x 3 1/4. Ink around all of the edges. I used Tim Holtz Gathered twigs, I love how it blends so well with the colors in this collection.

Depois de todas as camadas estarem prontas, coloque o resultado final dentro de folhas de laminar. As lâminas de escritório servem perfeitamente.

Once you have all of your layers put together put them into laminating sheets. For this project I used self sealing sheets from my local office supply store.

Meça onde quer colocar as alças antes (é uma dica) antes de colocar qualquer fita à volta do topo. Corte o excesso de papel laminado a toda a volta, deixando uma margem de 1/4" sensivelmente, menos no topo.

Measure where you want your handles BEFORE (that's a tip ;) you add any trim around the top edge. Trim around the sides of all of your edges leaving a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the laminating sheets around all of your edges except your top.

Utilizando um sistema de colocação espiral à sua escolha, fure os lados do papel laminado e cosa-as umas às outras utilizando o fio que faz conjunto com estes papéis.

Using a binding system of your choice punch holes in the edges and stitch all of your pieces together using the twine from the Trims package.

Corte medidas iguais da fita creme para fazer as alças. Para prender as alças, passe um atache pelo buraco feito anteriormente e passe-o pelo meio da fita, abrindo depois o atache. Atenção que esta lancheira é para um almoço light: não aconselho a colocarem muito peso lá dentro.

Cut even lengths of the cream ribbon to use as your handles. To attach your handles put a brad through the hole you punched earlier and poke it through the end of the ribbon then bend your brads back and they will hold your handles. Mind you - this is for a light lunch, I wouldn't suggest putting a lot of heavy weight in it.

Depois pode começar a decorar a frente do saco. Eu adoro o medalhão desta colecção! Usando um cortante, personalizei a lancheira com o meu nome! Depois adicionei uns botões, flores, um dos relógios que faz parte desta colecção e algumas palavras inspiradoras do papel Word labels."

Then you can start embellishing the front of your bag. I love the medallion with the bling. Using a punch I personalized it with my name! I added some more buttons, flowers, a clock from the clocks paper and some inspirational words from the "Word Labels" paper."

Pocket full of Sunshine with Carolina Breeze papers

Corte duas peças do papel McKay da colecção Carolina Breeze com 6"x9". Cole cada uma das peças à parte da frente e de trás das suas capas de chipboard com a mesma medida. Corte os papéis Miranda, Myrla, Gentry, Taylor e Nellie com 8"x11 1/2" cada um. Dobre cada um deles ao meio e cole, costas com costas, aplicando cola somente nos lados e fundo. O topo deve ficar sem nada para criar um bolso. Usando um cortante ou punch circular com 1 1/2", faça uma abertura, meio circulo, em cada bolso, na parte superior.

Cut McKay, from Carolina Breeze paper line paper to two pieces of 6x9.   Adhere each piece to the front and back covers. Cut Miranda, Myrla, Gentry, Taylor and Nellie to 8 x 11 ½” each.  Fold each in half and adhere back to back only putting adhesive on the sides and bottom.  Leave the top open to create pocket.  Using 1 ½” circle punch, punch a half circle on the front of each pocket. 

Pegue numa peça de papel Nellie e corte-a até ficare com 4"x8". Dobre-a em seguida. Adicione a peça dobrada à primeira página para criar um bolso.

Take 4"x12" piece of Nellie and cut in down to 4 x 8.  Score at ½” and fold.  Adhere small fold to page 1 to creat a flap.

Fold white envelop in half.  Tuck flap inside.  Adhere right side (with opening) to page 4. Cut Kayla to 6 x 9, fold in half, adhere to the inside of the envelope fold.

Corte o papel Shelley para 4"X12". Vinque a 5 3/4" e dobre. Dobre o lado maior para o interior do vinco. Cole em cima e em baixo para criar um bolso. Cole esta peça inteira na página 8.

Cut Shelley to 4 x 12.  Score at 5 ¾” and fold.  Fold larger side to the inside crease.  Apply adhesive to open edge and bottom.  This will create a pocket.  Adhere whole piece to page 8.  You will have a flapping pocket from small folded piece.

Pegue numa peça com 4"x6" de Myrla e vinque a 1 1/2". Agrafe esta dobre para fechar. Dobre o outro lado para dentro do lado agrafdo. Isto vai criar uma caixa de fósforos. Cole na página 9.

Take 4 x 6 piece of Myrla and score at 1 ½”.  Staple this fold down close to the edge.  Fold other side into the stapled fold.  This will create a matchbook.  Adhere to page 9.

Repita estes passos com o papel Miranda com 4"x12"como fez com o papel Shelley. Cole à página 12. Cole uma etiqueta no lado interior das páginas interiores e depois cole as páginas interiores ao cartão da capa. Decore as páginas como vê nas fotografias.

 Repeat steps with Miranda 4 x 12 as you did with Shelley 4 x 12.  Adhere to page 12.  Adhere a tag to the back side of the inside pages.  Then adhere the inside pages to the inside of the front and back covers. Decorate pages as seen in pictures.

Hoje é um dia muito especial para a Tubo de Ensaio, pois temos a honra de apresentar o primeiro trabalho da Graphic45 especialmente realizado para nós. Muito obrigada! Este magnífico projecto, realizado por uma das suas designers, a talentosa Arlene Cuevas (vejam o seu blog que vale a pena!) é perfeito para o tempo de halloween que está mesmo, mesmo à porta! Obrigada Arlene e Graphic45!

Today is a very important day for Tubo de Ensaio, because we are honored to present the first project that Graphic45 made especially for us. Thank you so much! This magnificent project was made by one of their designers, Arlene Cuevas (visit her amazing blog!) is perfect for the Halloween holiday just around the corner! Thank you Arlene and Graphic45!

"Olá! Diverti-me tanto a fazer esta pequena Happy haunting altered treat box, que decidi partilhar a sua construção com vocês. Vamos começar por alterar a Small Matchbook Box. Aqui vamos nós!

"Hi there! I had so much fun creating this little altered Happy Haunting treat box, I thought I’d share some of the steps while it was coming together. Let’s start off with altering the Small Matchbook Box. Here we go!

Para garantir que a caixa que sai de dentro da caixa de fósforos continua a deslizar suavemente para dentro e para fora, decidi manchar a caixa em vez de pintá-la. Qualquer tinta para esse efeito serve mas eu usei a Lindsy's Stamp gang starburst sprays.

To ensure the box that slides out of the matchbook box continues to slide smoothly in and out, I decided to stain the box in lieu of painting it. Any stains will do, but I used my Lindy’s Stamp Gang starburst sprays.

Aplique a tinta/mancha generosamente tanto no interior como no exterior da caixa.

Spray the stain generously to both the match box insert as well a the outer “shadow” box.

Here’s what the completed stained box looks like when complete.

Escolha os seus papéis e embellishments. Provavelmente não os vai utilizar todos, mas é sempre bom tê-los por perto, no caso de precisar de alguma coisa extra enquanto vai montando a caixa alterada.

Select your papers and embellishments. You may not use all of them, but it’s good to have them within reach in case you need that extra something while you’re pulling the altered box together. 

Meça a largura e comprimento da parte interior da caixa para saber com que medidas deve cortar o papel para o interior da caixa.

Measure the width and length of the inner part of the box so you know what measurements to use to trim the design paper.

Utilize uma tesoura de precisão para recortar com precisão as imagens da colecção de papel que vai usar para decorar a caixa. 

Use a pair of needle nose precision scissors to fussy-cut images from the paper collection to embellish your box.

Here’s a peek at the completed “inside” of my treat box.

Measure the width and length of the outer trim of the matchbook box. This will tell you what size strips you’ll need to embellish the front of the box.

Aqui podem ver 2 tiras que cortei para cobrir a frente da caixa. também vou cortar tiras para cobrir a parte mais longa da caixa. Não tem problema que as tiras se sobreponham nos cantos. Depois da caixa estar decorada, nem vão dar conta!

Here you can see 2 strips that I’ve cut to cover the front of the box. I’ll also be cutting strips to cover the longer length of the box. It’s okay that the strips will overlap on the corners of the box. Once the box is embellished, you won’t even notice! 

Eu utilizo a Distress ink, Black Soot da Ranger para terminar bem todas as extremidades das tiras antes de as colar na caixa.

I use Ranger Distress Ink in Black Soot to finish off the edges of the strips before adhering down to the box. 

Use fita cola dupla face para aderir as tiras à caixa. Eu usei ScorTape na minha caixa.

Use ScorTape or a strong adhesive to adhere the strips to the box. I used ScorTape on my box. 

Aqui está uma pequena espreitadela da frente da caixa já completa. Como podem ver os muitos embellishments acabam por cobrir os cantos, por isso, mesmo que deixe as tiras sobrepostas ninguém vai saber!

Here’s a peek at the completed “front” of my altered treat box. As you can see, the multiple embellishments will cover the corners, so even if you layers strips that cross over each other in the corners, no one will ever know! 

Mas o que é uma caixa de surpresas sem doces?! Gosto sempre de os decorar para ficarem de acordo com a caixa. Peguei em alguns doces Hershey's bars e medi-os para ver que peças de papel precisava para envolver os chocolates.

What’s a treat box without treats?! I like to finish off the treats to match the box. I took some treat size Hershey’s bars, and measured them to determine what size pieces of design paper I needed to wrap the bars. 

Cortei vários pedaços de papel e terminei-os com Distress ink da Ranger em Black Soot. Embrulhei os chocolates com o papel usando ScorTape. Depois decorei-os com as peças de chipboard em forma de bilhetes das Chipboard Tags #2 da Colecção Happy Haunting. Aqui está uma imagem dos chocolates decorados....

I cut pieces of design paper and finished off the edges with Ranger Distress Ink in Black Soot. I wrapped the candy bars with the design paper and used ScorTape to adhere. Then I embellished the wrapped candy bars with the “ticket” chip pieces from Happy Haunting Chipboard tags set #2.  Here’s what the finished treats look like…

Para unir os dois elementos utilizei uma tira de papel, que foi vincada e colada ao interior. Agrada-me o facto do cartão ter uma forma única e de abrir numa forma não tradicional também".

"A Gift card:  I really wanted to showcase the ticket and library card so I made that the main element of the front.  I was able to connect the library card to the inside piece using a strip of paper that was scored and adhered on the inside.  I like how the card has a unique shape and opens in a non-traditional way".

"I was inspired by the different clocks in the Vintage Finds line and wanted to group a few.  I tied the top and bottom together with the sentiment stickers".

Cartão "Love you" * Tell Your Story “Love You” Card

- Crie a base do cartão com cardstock kraft medindo 4 1/2"x5 3/4". Corte um pedaço de cardstock laranja com 4 1/4"x5 1/2".
- Corte o papel de journaling (YS1032) com 4"x5 1/2" e cole-o ao cardstock laranja, cosendo a toda a volta deste pedaço de papel.
- Com o carimbo Vintage Finds #2 (VF1022) carimbe a imagem centrada no papel de journaling, com tinta para carimbo preta.
- Coloque a fita laranja da colecção (YS1020) envolvendo a frente do cartão. Por debaixo desta fita, coloque uma tira de Decorative tape (YS1015).
- Coloque um pedaço de renda castanha por cima da fita laranja, sobrepondo-a ligeiramente.
- Agora, centre a frente do cartão com o cartão base (Kraft) para que o possa continuar a decorar.
- Cole com fita cola dupla face um laço laranja igual à fita (YS1020) e passe um pedaço de "twine" por entre o botão (YS1021), fazendo depois um laço com este. Ambos os laços devem ficar do lado direito do cartão, em baixo, como se pode ver na fotografia.
- Faça um círculo com 1 3/8" a partir do papel azul de bolinhas do pack 6x6 (YS1010) e com almofadas 3D cole-o acima dos laços.
- Em seguida coloque as borboletas do layered sticker (YS1023) à esquerda do círculo.
- Utilizando as folhas autocolantes (YS1026 & YS1025) coloque a frase "love you" na parte de baixo esquerda do cartão.

- Create a card base with kraft cardstock to the size of 4 ½” X 5 ¾”.  Cut a piece of orange cardstock to 4 ¼” X 5 ½”. 
- Cut journaling card sheet (YS1032) to 4” X 5 ½” and adhere to orange cardstock, then stitch around the outside of this piece.  
- Using the Vintage Finds Stamp #2 (VF1022) stamp the image ink black centered on the paper. 
- Place orange ribbon trim from Tell Your Story Trims (YS1020) around the card front, next place strip of teal Decorative Tape (YS1015) under orange ribbon. 
- Place any brown lace ribbon above the orange ribbon slightly overlapping it onto the orange.  
- Now center the card front onto your card base so you can continue to embellish your card.  
- Tie a orange bow using Trims (YS1020) and tie a piece of the brown twine (YS1020) through any Tell Your Story button (YS1021) and adhere both bows to the mid-lower right of card as shown. 
- Punch a 1 3/8” circle from the teal dot paper from the 6x6 paper pad (YS1010) and pop up just above the bows.  
- Next place any butterfly from the layered stickers (YS1023) on the left of the circle.  
- Using the sticker sheets (YS1026 & YS1025) place “love you” on the lower left of the card.
